Biagio's Gelato.

Our little Italian Gelato parlour opened in January 2024 and our gelato has most definitely proven popular...well when it tastes this good, we knew it would be a hit! You will find the doors to our parlour located to the right-hand side of our main Tea room entrance. See you for a scoop or two soon.

What Is Gelato ?

Ever wondered what the difference is between Gelato & Ice Cream?

Firstly, gelato generally contains between 6-9% of butterfat (The fatty component of milk).

Typically, other ice cream products will contain a far higher percentage of this ingredient, and in this case, more doesn't equal better!

More butterfat means more trans fats, which is generally agreed to be bad for your health, making gelato the far healthier option when compared to ice cream!

Secondly, gelato has much less air whipped into it during the production process when compared to ice cream as it is churned at a much slower speed, which creates a product that is far more concentrated, creamy and smooth. In fact, regular ice cream is approximatley 50% air (yes, half is air!), whereas gelato's rich texture contains on average only 35%.

This is akin to whipping cream by hand verses with an electric whisk, with gelato being the equivalent of the hand-whipped, hand-crafted product.

Whats more, the density of gelato leaves you feeling satisifed without the stodgyness!

Lastly, when compared to ice cream gelato contains more flavouring - in the case of our amazing suppliers, they don't include any artificial colours or flavours, so you can be rest assured that you're not just getting more flavour; you're getting more quality ingredients per bite than your average ice cream.

Gelato typically contains more milk than it's ice cream counterpart, and does not tend to include egg yolks - be sure to ask which of our options are egg-free before ordering.
